Aboriginal Midwife Membership

Aboriginal Midwives practicing under the exemption are invited to join the AOM as voting members.

The new membership categories for Aboriginal Midwives are as follows:
Active
= doing work that is provincially-funded; or
Inactive
= not actively practicing, or doing work that is not provincially-funded

Benefits of AOM Membership

The following is a list of benefits that are available to Aboriginal Midwife members who join the AOM:

  • Participate as members with full voting rights
  • Eligibility to participate on the Board of Directors, committees and/or working groups of the AOM
  • Advocacy at the provincial level
  • Reimbursement for attending continuing education events through the Professional Development Fund
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) which includes a subscription to the Canadian Journal of Midwifery Research & Practice
  • Membership with the National Aboriginal Council of Midwives (NACM)
  • LifeWorks member support program to assist with work/life issues (including short-term counselling, resources and research requests)
  • AOM On Call line - a confidential phone line available to members 24/7 to receive information about and support with risk management concerns
  • Access to group discounts on products and services through the Member Affinity Program, such as cell phone plans, home & auto insurance, clinical supplies
  • Active Labour  – AOM’s quarterly newsletter that provides updates to members
  • Access to the AOM’s continuing education program at member rates, including Emergency Skills Workshops, webinars on a variety of topics, and the Annual General Meeting & Conference
  • Practice management support tools, such as the AOM’s Practice Management Guide, sample practice protocols and clinical record templates
  • Clinical practice tools such as Clinical Practice Guidelines developed specifically for midwives
