AOM Informed Choice eLearning Module

The Informed Choice eLearning Module is the first elearning product developed by the AOM.  It has been designed to be informative, interactive and engaging.  It is written for practicing midwives, recognizing the skill and knowledge that you already have in providing informed choice.

The need for the module was first recommended by the Joint Risk Management Working Group because of the key role that informed choice plays in risk management.

The College of Midwives of Ontario recognizes this module as fulfilling two Continuing Education and Professional Development Activities for Quality Assurance Program (QAP) reporting.

This module is recommended for all midwives and midwifery students and is available to non-AOM members.  It will take about four hours to complete, and can be completed in as many visits as you like.  You can also return to it to use the module as a resource.

The Informed Choice elearning module provides a comprehensive overview of the theory and best practice of informed choice.  Key topics include:

  • an introduction to the history, theory and legal requirements;
  • setting the stage for informed choice, including power, trust and communication issues;
  • presenting information, including the use of evidence, presenting information, explaining risk and creating written tools;
  • supporting decision making; and
  • dealing with challenges.

What will it cost and how do I register?

The fee to use the Informed Choice eLearning Module is $25 for AOM midwife members, $15 for all midwifery students, and $100 for all others.
