- The next round of $15K funding through the Women's Xchange has been announced. Midwifery practice groups qualify as community agencies and have been awarded in the past. The notice of intent is due Sept. 4 and applications are due Oct. 5.

- The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has issued a notification of a case of multidrug-resistant Candida auris, an emerging fungal infection that can cause invasive infections; the exact mechanism of transmission is unknown. More information and interim PHAC guidance can be found here.
- Two 2016 cases of legionnaire’s disease in newborns following home water births have been recently reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). An Ontario public health unit recently reported a similar case. These reports express infection concerns related to the management of water birth equipment and water. Midwives may find it helpful to check out the following U.S. guidelines for water birth and share this information during informed choice discussions.
